Of course this is a valid point-of-view having roots at least as far back as the modernists. But there are many contemporary artists finding much more relevance in this quote from Jorge Calado’s essay “The Original Sin:”

“Photography begins with an “f” sound that stands for fiction, fake or forgery. And that is the original sin of photography. Only the most untainted purists (and the pedantic New York Times) seem to be unaware of this.” – Jorge Calado (PDF link to essay)

paper crystals

each of these quartz/crystal-shaped objects is approximately 1 inch by 1 to 2.5 inches and made of wood wrapped in vintage tracing paper.

the form for the casting the plaster landscape with the caverns that the crystals are to have been mined from is nearly ready, too.

for a proposed show @proofgallery a non-profit in south boston.

the first, a large-ish piece: loosely connected masses with multiple entrances as to parks… this is a detail (referance images here)

the second, a mid size piece: plaster/polystyrene quarry with wax mineral deposits, mining structures, and wood/paper quartz

My studio will be open during the 2010 Bushwick Open Studios, June 5-6, noon to 6pm.
